Programmes, courses and workshops

Dynamic, practical and interactive workshops focus on exploring, understanding and applying personal and social life-skills. Experienced international trainers encourage participants to develop their natural talents, strengths and values; and empower them to find effective ways to apply these skills in their own situations and circumstances.

All courses offered by Oasis are designed to meet the personal and professional development requirements of our participants. Wherever possible we will carry out a feasibility study in advance, as well as a final evaluation of feedback and results, to ensure that the services we provide match the needs and interests of individuals and organisations.

Below are some of the courses that we offer.

Values-based Education

a) Professional development courses for educators and care-givers

Foundation course


A two-day workshop consisting of four modules. Each four-hour module can stand alone as a half-day seminar.
Modules:
  • Values awareness: educators as role models
  • Quality education: inspiring young people to know, to do, to be, and to live together
  • Fulfilling the needs of the child / student, while caring for the needs of the educator
  • Skills for creating a values-based learning environment: communication skills, active listening, conflict resolution, values-based discipline

Train-the-Trainer course


A five-day course in two sessions, for potential trainers who have taken the foundation course. The course consists of a two-day workshop, followed by three days of practical experience - co-training a foundation course with experienced facilitators.


b) Professional capacity building in schools and higher education institutions

A series of four-hour workshops that can be presented in any combination.
  • How to begin, sustain and further develop values-based education
  • Practicalities in the classroom and around the school / institution
  • The role of leadership, management and co-ordination, including monitoring and evaluation
  • Peer support / mentoring
  • Parenting skills
  • Understanding intellectual, emotional and moral intelligence
  • Intuition and the gifted and talented child


c) Outreach project

Providing values-based education for marginalised children Proficient, certified trainers in values-based education will be offered the opportunity to help to develop programmes both locally and in developing countries. "Ubuntu" - the Art of Living Together in Harmony

A two to four day dynamic and interactive workshop for teachers, community groups, and organizations. It can be tailor-made and adapted according to different age groups, interests and cultures. Ubuntu (an ancient code of ethics and way of life that is found in many parts of Africa) will be used as a framework for exploring universal values and life-skills. The course includes eight modules. Introductory presentations and half-day seminars can also be arranged.

Modules include the following:
  • Reawakening the values at the heart of all cultures: Etihad, Harambee, Terranga, Ahimsa, Ubuntu (unity, cooperation, hospitality, non-violence, respect, dignity, mercy, compassion ...)
  • The interconnectedness of life: being in tune with the environment and with humanity
  • Conflict resolution and prevention, and reconciliation
  • Implementing Ubuntu in daily life

Train-the-trainer course

A four-day course in two sessions, for facilitators who have already attended the above workshop. The course consists of a two-day training workshop, followed by two days of practical experience, co-training with experienced facilitators.
